Are you sure you are doing everything right by your skin to prevent acne? Here is food for your thought. Did you know that acne is aggravated by some of the common things we consider good for our skin? This is what we call Skin care mistakes that cause acne. Be ready to re-learn about all your skin needs, accept the changes you need to make and stop your long-term habits that are causing your skin to break out.
1. Cleansing
Cleansing is an important skincare routine. But if done wrong can cause your skin to break out. Most often, people suffering from acne are prone to oily skin. To control the oil secretion many resorts to cleansing the face often. This will result in the drying of the skin which leads to another reaction. To prevent this dryness your skin will try to overcompensate. This means that there will be a surge in oil production. If you are a person who is cleansing your skin more than twice a day then stop it right away because you will end up getting more acne than before. Instead, just use water to make you feel fresh. Stick to morning and nighttime cleansing routine
2. Too many anti-pimple products
Just because you have acne doesn’t mean all your products need to fight acne. You can just have one active ingredient that works against acne and the rest of the products can be based on your skin type. Your cleanser, tone and creams need not be anti-pimple. If you are using a topical cream for pimples your cleanser and toner need not be having anti-pimple agents. This is because too many active ingredients at the same time might become futile. For example, benzoyl peroxide and retinol don’t work together. Also by making every skin care product anti-pimple you will end up hurting your skin more. This will irritate your skin leading to redness and inflammation. Take it slow. And don’t use two anti-pimple products together. Use one at night and another during the day. This will help you to get the best of both products.
3. Touching the face too often
There is one important rule you will have to follow to keep pimples away. Do Not Touch Your Face. Period. It is stated that the average individual touch the face more than 100 times in a day. This is disastrous for you, especially if you are fighting acne. You inadvertently harbour germs and grime and make your skin more prone to acne. Not only that, but once you feel a pimple an irresistible urge to pop it occurs to most of us. This will not leave you without a pimple but will give you a pimple scar which will refuse to leave you for a very long time. If you want a clear face then stop touching your face and popping your pimples.
4. Skipping Moisturiser
Well, we want to break this to you. All skin types need moisturiser and that includes oily skin too. Skipping Moisturiser will do your skin more harm than good. A well-hydrated skin is the only way to long-lasting beauty. By giving the skin the hydration it needs you are helping the skin to heal and glow. The moisturiser helps your skin to get a balance in sebum production. It also helps to regulate sebum production. If you are having oily skin choose a lightweight Moisturiser. A gel or water base Moisturiser will help your skin.
5. Not giving time
When you invest in a product don’t expect results right away. Remember you are treating your skin and not doing a vanishing trick for acne. If you keep switching between brands and products your skin will not have any time to heal. It will probably get irritated and cause more harm. This will lead you to become more frustrated. In your mind, you will feel that you have tried everything under the sky but nothing works. To avoid all this, give your product time to work. Give a minimum of 12 weeks for products to work before you consider changing. But if you notice things are turning worse, then stop trying the product and consult a dermatologist before you try another product.
6. Skipping Sunscreen
Skipping sunscreen is almost suicidal for your skin. You are allowing the skin to be damaged by the UV rays. These rays are not only capable of increasing acne but can also worsen the scars and cause hyperpigmentation. If clear skin is in your dreams then don’t, skip sunscreen. Like never. This will help protect the skin against unwanted UV damage. And this protection will help the acne heal, and prevent scars from becoming worse. Overall sunscreen is needed to ensure that your skin not be further damaged and also to facilitate the healing of the skin.
